Expression of Interest - Council River Vessel Moorings

Council is currently seeking expressions of interest from the community for river vessel sites within Council-operated moorings, located on the river in Kingston on Murray, Loxton and Waikerie.

The moorings are offered on a permit basis, with the cost set during the Council’s budget deliberations. Services at each mooring site include:

Kingston on Murray

  • Mooring posts, with moorings at approximately 15 metres spacings
  • Road access and parking area
  • Adjacent parkland area, maintained by the Council
  • Council provided public waste bins
  • Public toilets and BBQs, with close access to a boat ramp
  • Waste water vessel pump out service truck service available through the State Government, at no cost.
  • Ideally located to all Riverland towns and attractions

Loxton

  • Mooring posts, with moorings at widths of between 12 and 16 metres
  • Individually metered electricity
  • Road access and sealed parking area
  • Public lighting
  • Irrigated garden areas, maintained by the Council
  • Formed access pathways to each mooring
  • Vessel pump out facilities available nearby
  • Walking and cycling trails link to the Loxton township

Waikerie

  • Mooring posts, with moorings at widths at 15 metres
  • Road access and parking area
  • Grassed riverfront area, maintained by the Council
  • Public lighting
  • Council provided public waste bins
  • Public toilets and BBQs, and boat ramp nearby
  • Waste water vessel pump out facilities available
  • Close pedestrian, cycling and vehicle access to the Waikerie township

The allocation of moorings is made in accordance with the Council’s policy, available here, with preference given to commercial vessel owners. Expressions of Interest will only be received from owners of river vessels that are surveyed in accordance with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority Marine Order 503 (Certificate of Survey – national law) 2018 in relation to the vessel, or that have an out of water survey certificate issued within the last five (5) years. Boats must be river worthy, registered and insured. Copies of the surveys and insurance must be provided with the Expression of Interest.

Moorings are not offered for permanent on-river occupation. A copy of the current permit conditions is available on request.

Submitting  your Application

To submit an expression of interest for a mooring site, please fill out this application form, ensuring that you attach your Evidence of the Marine Order 503 or out of water survey certificate, as well as current copies of registration and insurance.

You can also download and complete a hardcopy application form, and submit to council@lwdc.sa.gov.au, drop in to the Loxton or Waikerie offices, or post to PO Box 409 Loxton SA 5333.

Expressions of Interest will be received on an ongoing basis, with consideration of allocations to occur in the first instance in June 2024, for EOIs received by Friday 31 May 2024.

All EOIs will be kept in a register, and vessel owners will be advised if a mooring becomes available.
