Flood Recovery

Following recent condition assessments in various locations, a number of local campgrounds have been reopened for public use. For camping within the Murray River National Park, please head to the National Parks & Wildlife Service SA's (NPWS) website and navigate to the 'Additional Park Closure Details' link. You can also access NPWS' online booking site to determine which locations have been reopened for public use and/or overnight stays.

The Waikerie Riverfront Levee will be removed from Rowe Street to Edgar Bartlett Drive. The same levee, along with the Kingston on Murray riverfront and CWMS levees will be battered to a minimum slope of 1:2, with a final height to mitigate flows of 120GL into the state.
Council will also continue to work with SA Power Networks to reconnect power along the riverfronts in each town, and to riverfront facilities. As with majority of our flood recovery actions, this will be a process to ensure that there will be no safety hazards when reconnecting the power supply.
Application may be made to Council for remission of rates for residential properties on the basis of ongoing financial hardship due to the River Murray Flood.

The following affected sites below have now been closed to the public and will re-open when deemed safe for use. Please be aware of submersible objects and permanent infrastructure along the riverfronts and boat ramps whilst accessing high river areas.

- All toilets along the Loxton riverfront - closed (portable toilets available)
- Apex park toilets - closed (portable toilets available)
- Habel’s Landing (houseboat moorings) - authorised access only
- Thiele sandbar roadways - closed
Paisley
- Paisley Riverfront Public Toilet - closed
- River Drive - light traffic only
Qualco
- Qualco boat ramp - closed
Waikerie
- Access to Maize Island - closed
- Hawkes Hill Road - closed beyond Holder Bottom Road towards Maize Island
- Leonard Norman Drive - closed beyond boat ramp #2
- Ricciuto Road - closed
- Waikerie Boat Ramp #2 - closed
- Waikerie Riverfront Jetty - closed
Flood Recovery Support
The South Australian Government has announced a number of supports for individuals, communities and businesses impacted by the River Murray flood. Click here for further information about grants and support packages.
Financial Counselling support is also available for both employing and non-employing small businesses impacted by the flood. Rural Business Services are offering up to 30 hours of support which will include:
- Initial meeting and assessment
- Recovery planning session
- Analysis and feasibility of business development/redevelopment options or scenarios
- Development of recovery/continuity action plans
- Assistance to review plans, revise and implement
Legal Services Commission of South Australia are also offering free legal information and advice on their hotline, 1300 366 424. Their website has many valuable resources, in particular, their Insurance claims after a disaster booklet.
